      The Task

 

Each student will be responsible for researching and writing about three of the events played in the summer Olympics. They may use the web resources provided, library, or any other credible resource to find their information.

 

Each class will divide into six equal teams. The teacher will provide team leaders and the leaders will draw names for members of their team.

 

Each team will choose a country to represent in the Olympic Games.

 

Each team will make a flag of their country. They may find it on the internet and print a copy to use, or draw a picture of the flag.

 

Each student will research information about the Olympics.

 



                                                 

     The Process

 

Each student will answer these questions about the Olympics:

       

     1.  Who founded the Olympic games and who was the first winner at the first Olympic games?

        2.  What country is hosting the 2008 summer Olympic Games?

        3.  What does each of the Olympic rings and their colors stand for?

        4.  What does the Olympic torch signify and when was it first carried?

        5.  Name the five mascosts of the 2008 Olympic Games and when put together, what phrase does it make?

 

Each student will answer these questions about the three events they chose to gather information on.

 

        1.  What is the history of the sport and where and when was it first played.

        2.  When did this sport become a part of the Olympic Games?

        3.  What equipment and facilities are needed?

        4.  How is this event won by an athlete?

 

Each student will compete in the Olympic events they chose to write about.

The students of Paul Elementary are talking about the upcoming Summer Olympics in 2008. Can you feel it? You have worked very hard to prepare our school for this event. Getting ready to participate in the Olympics is hard work. Now you are experts on the 2008 summer Olympics.
